Albertans voted three to one to stay in Canada, and one in four voted to start the process of leaving, after a year in which every party, every former premier and the Prime Minister himself campaigned against them. Sheila Gunn Reid and Lise Merle discuss the top stories of the day in this edition of the Rebel Roundup livestream. Today, we're looking at the results of the Alberta referendum, where roughly 77% of voters chose to remain in Canada on partial counts, while about one in four backed independence, with rural Alberta far more open to leaving than Calgary and Edmonton. Is the movement finished, or just getting started? Plus, while everyone was watching the separation question, Premier Danielle Smith won a mandate on immigration, limits on newcomer services and proof of citizenship for voting, but what will she do with it when she addresses Albertans at 6:45 p.m. tonight? And finally, Prime Minister Mark Carney says Albertans chose to build "a stronger Canada, together," but will Ottawa actually listen to the quarter of the province that wants out? Sheila Gunn Reid and David Menzies discuss the top stories of the day in this edition of the Rebel Roundup livestream. Today, it's referendum day in Alberta, where voters will cast their ballots on a number of issues — most prominently, of course, is whether they believe the province should begin the process to hold a formal vote on separation from Canada. Numerous other issues, including several related to immigration, are also on the ballot. Plus, a shocking incident has left four Canadian Armed Forces soldiers dead and 39 more injured after a fast-moving fire ripped through the area, in what Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling "one of the worst tragedies for the (Armed Forces) on Canadian soil in peacetime." And finally, a new report from Statistics Canada shows inflation rose 3.1% in September, a spike driven due to a rise in fuel prices amid the ongoing conflict in Iran. Britain's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, used his first speech at the United Nations to order a National Centre for Information Defence, to "detect, attribute and disrupt" hostile state information attacks. In the same speech he warned about "far right narratives" and a "negative, corrosive narrative about life in Britain," and promised: "Well, no more." (Transcript) Britain has done this before. In 2023, Big Brother Watch revealed that Whitehall's Covid-era anti-disinformation units logged columnist Peter Hitchens, MP David Davis, Oxford's Carl Heneghan, and the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, for opposing local lockdowns. After the Southport murders, a government unit flagged a post about asylum hotels to TikTok. And 62,199 people were arrested in Britain for speech offences over five years. Canada already has the parts: a Privy Council push for social media monitoring, Meltwater "social listening" contracts, a Heritage-funded "situation room" that tracked "right wing responses" to the war in Gaza, a military that saw Covid as a chance to test propaganda techniques, an Industry Canada memo contemplating "legal action" over posts, and Bill C-34's new Digital Safety Commission. As Heritage Minister Marc Miller put it: "What constitutes legitimate and illegitimate discussion is a very fine line." On Thanksgiving Monday, the City of Moncton tells a New Brunswick court why it cancelled a free Christian worship concert in a public park: "to ensure public safety and to prevent anticipated hate speech." Burn 24/7 Canada booked Riverfront Park for a Let Us Worship stop with American worship leader Sean Feucht: a live band, local churches praying for the city, and tanks of water for baptisms. The city approved it, then cancelled it the day before, after an open letter and threats of counter-protests. The ministry is suing for $50,000 under the Charter. Now the city's statement of defence is in. It says the safety concerns came from "individuals opposed to the Event." It acknowledges the cancellation limited freedom of expression but calls that justified. And it argues the Christians filed the wrong kind of lawsuit, so the case should be thrown out with costs. That's a heckler's veto: whoever threatens trouble gets to decide who speaks. And Moncton wasn't alone. Parks Canada in Halifax, Charlottetown, Quebec City, Gatineau, Vaughan and Abbotsford all shut Feucht out in the summer of 2025. In Montreal, where a church hosted him anyway, a man threw smoke bombs during the service, and the city fined the church $2,500. Rebel News identified the alleged smoke bomber, a Department of National Defence employee who has since been charged with mischief. Plus: author John Goddard, a former Associated Press reporter in Tehran and later a Toronto Star reporter, on his book Chicken Land: Murder in the Name of Allah. It's about the 2021 attack on a family at their Mississauga takeout restaurant after one son walked away from a business that Goddard says doubled as an ISIS cell. Three men were convicted, the RCMP laid no terrorism charges, and most of the national media looked away. Tonight on The Ezra Levant Show: the Federal Court of Appeal has ruled that a Trudeau-appointed panel can decide Rebel News isn't journalism. Three judges, unanimous. Appeal dismissed, with costs. The case was never about money. In 2019, the Trudeau government created the Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization, a government licence for the media. Get approved and you get the goodies, including a labour tax credit covering 35 per cent of a reporter's salary, up to $29,750 per reporter, per year. Postmedia gets it. Torstar gets it. The Globe gets it. Rebel News never wanted the cheque. It applied in 2021 to find out one thing: would a government panel actually claim the power to decide who is and isn't a journalist in Canada? Now there's an answer. The CRA's so-called independent advisory board looked at three weeks of Rebel's reporting, 423 stories in all, and approved 10. Two per cent. Which three weeks? January and February 2022, the Freedom Convoy, when Rebel was the only camera on Wellington Street at two in the morning as police moved in with batons and horses. The government's journalism experts looked at that coverage and said: not news. Their reasons? Rebel had "taken on an activist role." It crowdfunded on the stories it covered, asking viewers to pay for the reporting instead of the government. And the court took Rebel's own mission statement, telling the other side of the story, as evidence that its content "focuses on a single perspective." The judges didn't say Rebel isn't journalism. They said it isn't the court's job to decide, and deferred to Ottawa's hand-picked panel. But to win, the government had to concede that an outlet's perspective is irrelevant, and the judgment says so three times. After seven years, it's in a binding ruling: being conservative should not be disqualifying. And the bigger question, whether the whole scheme offends freedom of the press, was left undecided. This isn't Rebel's first time in that building. Two wins against the Leaders' Debates Commission, in 2019 and 2021. Court orders forcing Steven Guilbeault, Ya'ara Saks, Marci Ien and Karina Gould to unblock Rebel on social media. And now one loss, on a tax credit Rebel never wanted to cash. So turn the ruling around. If Rebel News fails the government's test, think about who passes it. Ottawa spends more than $1.7 billion a year on the media. Every outlet with the QCJO stamp has been reviewed by a government panel and found acceptable. That's not a press gallery. That's a government payroll. The fight has already moved on: Bill C-9 deleted the religious-text defence from the hate-speech law, Bill C-22's lawful access powers are in the Senate, and Bill C-34 brings back the online harms bill under a friendlier name. Five years. Two courts. More than $105,000 in legal fees on this one case, plus a share of the government's costs, and every dollar from voluntary donations. On this episode of The Real Money Show, presented by Guildhall Wealth, Jeremy Wiseman and Jerry Correia break down a quiet bombshell: Dr. Judy Shelton is now advising Scott Bessent's Treasury — and she's bringing her 50-year gold-backed bond with her. Plus, Goldman Sachs says silver is in its sixth year of deficit, with five years of supply left. They also unpack Treasury yields spiking past 5.3% and whether a blockchain bond opens the door to a CBDC. And then there's Jim Rickards' "silent inheritance," locked up since 1984 and now unlocked. The price tag sounds impossible until you hear it. The Real Money Show airs Saturdays at 1 p.m. ET on Rebel News. Jeremy and Jerry share expert insights on safeguarding your savings, diversifying your portfolio, and building long-term financial security. Since 2002, Guildhall has guided investors through inflation, market volatility, and global uncertainty, helping everyday people make informed financial decisions. 📅 Bookmark this page and don’t miss an episode
